Over the course of 44 years coaching high school basketball, Jim has had many labels attached to his name. Teacher. Coach. Winner. But, back in 2012, a trip to emergency room that led to a surprise diagnosis with a rare, chronic blood cancer known as polycythemia vera (PV) resulted in a new and unexpected one: patient.
It took some time to find his footing, but Jim eventually made it back to the court where he coached for another seven years. He retired in 2019 with 626 victories.
This short documentary video chronicles Jim’s diagnosis journey and how he summoned the strength to find his way back to coaching.
