We partnered with More Media and Incyte in telling the story of American comic book artist, JG Jones. The documentary chronicles his life and accomplishments, as well as, his battle with chronic illness. As a nod to his prowess in the comic book industry, Shapes produced two animated pieces that help illustrate Jones’ struggle. Set to his own descriptive words, we executed both sequences using black and white cel animation, following Jones’ persona through scenes that twist, melt, separate and coalesce into each other. We took special care to make sure that both pieces morph seamlessly between visual metaphors and into the live-action body of the documentary, capturing the emotional and disorienting nature of his experience with the disease.
