As part of this year’s CSR MADventure line-up, Infor Manila traveled to Pawikan Conservation Center at Morong, Bataan last February 15-16 to participate in a campaign towards protection and preservation of local pawikans or sea turtles.

The 2-day event was packed with lectures on Basic Life Support Training, Environmental First Aid, and a brief history of the Pawikan Conservation Center and its vision-mission. Infor Manila also donated raincoats, head lamps and boots for the Center volunteers. Among the jam-packed list of activities, the highlight of the event was the releasing of newborn turtles. Each volunteer got the chance to adopt a baby turtle, give it a name, before letting it run back to the sea.

Participants also got to experience what it was like to go on Night Patrol. Volunteers at the Center would often conduct these nightly patrols to ward off illegal poachers. Touted as an exotic delicacy, pawikans and their eggs are in constant threat of being hunted. Aside from this threat, sea turtles are also endangered by the amount of plastic that gets out to sea. Mistaking plastic trash as jellyfish or seaweed, the turtles would sometimes ingest plastic trash, causing injury or death to these gentle creatures.

The Pawikan Conservation Center has been hard at work to ensure that sea turtles continue to thrive in our beaches for generations to come. Infor Manila is proud to support such an organization that raises awareness and spearheads action towards protecting these gentle marine animals.
