Leisa is a dancer, performance artist and life model from Melbourne. She performs with Weave Movement Theatre and is a member of Rawcus. She has performed in venues in Melbourne and Adelaide. Internationally she has performed in the United States, Sweden, Indonesia and Germany. Leisa currently resides in Berlin.

My body of work was once called I Am Not This Body.

I spent a lifetime thinking and believing this.
From the beginning I was told that this was not supposed to be my body. We just needed to pray harder for my limbs to grow; to pack a different dress to bring my healed body home in.

This body, the one I inhabit, was the result of original sin….
Or sin passed through the family from generation to generation….resulting in me.
One day, perhaps at the Second Coming or when I die, I will get a new, perfect body – without stain or blemish.
So….this was not my body.
Connected, but not connected
Good enough, but not good enough.
Just as I was supposed to be but not as I was supposed to be.
Planned but completely random.
I have walked through five decades to discover…
I AM this body.
This Body.
I Am.
Look at it and see.
I invite you.
Look Look at me.
Stop, pause, gaze.
Discover.
This is your invitation.
I am this Body.
This Body.
Look.
