Another shot from How to Train your Dragon - Yule Log. For this one I wanna show the different stages I went through from ref to final. For Hiccup's reference I used my backpack full of books to get a better sense of weight and shrek to help me for the eye-line and company. And then for the kids, recorded outside and at the gym to get more accurate running and climbing mechanics. And I animated the dragon straight ahead. For the blocking of the shot, I usually like to block in spline to get a better sense of timing and weight. Sometimes if there isn't enough time before I have to show the director I leave it in stepped though. In the real spline pass I added more information to the animation, cleaned up the dragons more and dealt with some constraints issues. In the polish pass, I kept refining all the poses how they moved, and made sure that all the tech issues were sorted out.
This project was extremely fast paced - I had only 2 weeks and a half to complete this entire shot.
