This ultra-short film was made during self-isolation of Spring 2020 in a room in Moscow suburbs. It seemed at that time that the whole world was breaking apart. I was very depressed and needed to find a form to reinstall my identity as a dancer, video artist, musician and animation artist. I began to experiment with different mediums, searching to combine them and present myself through them as a unified self.
“Here I Am” is a minimalistic visual parable of the cycle of life that aims to invite the questioning of applicability of classical notions of subjectivity to the realm of contemporary creativity. During the process of It’s creation the domains of human and digital were manifoldly intertwined. The moving figure was captured by a digital camera and compressed in the digital form, then the rotoscoping was accomplished using a tablet computer with a digital pen; the numerous digital images were then put together via editing software. The creation of the soundtrack passed through the same phases. Musical structures and voice recordings were transmitted from a human body to a computer and then variously modified with the human mind participating in the digital processes. Thus, human and digital became interconnected to the point of impossibility of distinguishing between them. The ”true” human image became “unseen” within abstraction of itself leaving only an aura of romanticizing aesthetical presence
