Every year around 3 million girls undergo female genital mutilation or FGM. Christmas in Kenya is one of the biggest seasons for FGM, because on holiday there’s time to heal from the circumcision.
FGM is a violation of the human rights of girls and women and it’s a deep-rooted tradition that reflects extreme gender inequality. FGM is violence and its physical, psychological and social effects can continue through life.
