Kalaripayattu is the most ancient martial art in the world. It was once a way of life in the quiet coastline of India. It remained the backbone of the society there for a thousand years till the British empire came along and banned the martial art as it viewed it as a threat. They systematically broke down every practice of the art and would have succeeded in completely destroying it, if it wasn't for the efforts of a few Kalaripayattu masters. These masters secretly kept alive their traditions in little pockets and practiced it for many years and generations in the dark. When India gained its independence from the British empire, Kalaripayattu finally had its chance to find its way back into society.

Today, the practice of Kalaripayattu is largely perceived to be outdated and irrelevant in the eyes of the modern world. The idea of a 'warrior' is only seen through a lens of violence. Yet it only takes a few moments with the masters to realize its true essence. Unfortunately there has been very little attempt to capture this essence in writing or film, to define the journey of a 'warrior' as an inner meditation rather than one of external conflict.

This film is an attempt to do just that as it charts the life of a young Kalaripayattu master while describing the meaning behind its fundamental movement and intricate philosophy. In this film, we explore the changing motivations of the student, who comes from a place that has no association with Kalaripayattu or so he believed for the longest time. As we follow his discoveries and journey over the course of 8 years, we also see his trials and tribulations from the perspective of his Guru, his teacher, his mentor; who with time, slowly unveils his vision for his student. A vision that the student still isn't aware of, a vision that is first proclaimed through this film.
