CARs are Controlled Articluar Rotations, which are meant to target a specific joint and strengthen the connection between brain and muscle (yes, your brain can break a sweat doing these!). The slower, the better so your brain can do a majority of the work.
- For the shoulder joint: start by extending the arm in front of you. You can start with your other hand on your rib cage to feel if there is any flaring happening. Core activation and minimal movement/rotation in the torso are key here.
- Start to draw the arm up towards the ear. At the ear, turn the palm out as the arm drops back behind you. Keep rotating through your full range of motion (if there is pain or limitation, make the circle wider and move only where comfortable), rotating the palm as you do until you end at your side with your palm out.
- Then try this by extending the other arm at your side and creating a fist, to keep tension in the rest of your body. This can also be done standing.
