Nasser Al-Shammari, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Iraqi Hizbullah Al-Nujaba Movement, said in a December 30, 2019 interview on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) in which he responded to recent U.S. airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq that Iraqi resistance forces can defeat American forces in the region several times over. He said that the U.S. must be expelled from Iraq and that the U.S. would be wrong to think that its desert bases are too remote to be targeted by the resistance. Al-Shammari also said that Iraq and the mujahideen have a right to defend themselves and that a conflict against the U.S. and Israel would end in the expulsion of the U.S. from the region and the collapse and destruction of Israel. In a same-day interview on Al-Rassed TV (Iraq), Al-Shammari said that Iraqis have the right to target the Americans wherever they may be found, that America only respects the language of the powerful, and that America will only respect the will and position of the Iraqi people if they respond powerfully to any American action. He also said that any American interests in Iraq can be targeted by the resistance.
