continua

continua was published as a multi-voice book length poetry collection in 2015 (Chaudiere Books: Ottawa).

Of writing the book continua, it was important to write with what was obviously right there and right here, in walking and place, including voices, footprints and material forms. It was important to write as if the page and all that it is is fixed; at other times, as if the page is spatially fluid. You could consider the pieces on each page small sculptures, suspended or immersed, built; their solidity and resulting spaces, uncertain.

continua is carefully staged with prop and voice. Each textual piece is voice or are voices at times acting as prop - sometimes in concert, sometimes not, sometimes seeming fragmented or interrupted but really (in a visual sense) developing out of a series of suspensions. In places, where the text seems bold, it may be that I have repeated the text multiple times. It is important that language and font and image and space have transparency and mutability; that voices have emotion, pitches, and tones; that throughout shadows flit, filter, through multiple proximal relationships - what is present, what is missed.

This video offers a very short compilation of pieces from continua, spoken. It is a way to further develop elements of screening/filtering present in the book form, and to enhance elements of movement that are integral to the book.
