Lemon balm (melissa officinalis) is a wonderful plant used for centuries by Christian "Carmelitani" monks in Italy. They produce the "acqua di melissa" (lemon balm water), the traditional remedy for gastric issues. Scientific studies confirm having an antispastic action on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract.
Here I'm transplanting a couple of plants to put in my forest garden. The bigger stalks died in mid winter but a new growth of small, tender and aromatic leaves emerged from the roots.
