The word 'Gentrification' was originally used by British sociologist Ruth Glass in 1964. It defines as the process of changing a house or district so it fits within a middle class taste. For some it is seen as the making of a neighbourhood, but for the original inhabitants it creates an environment of change until they can’t afford to live there anymore. “Once the process of gentrification starts in a district it goes on rapidly until all or most of the original working class occupiers are displaced and the social character of the district is changed” (Glass, 1964).

In Berlin, Germany the process of gentrification has come around later as the city was hugely affected by war and the building and destroying of the Berlin Wall. After visiting the city back in September, and staying in Prenzlauer Berg an area originally home to artists and squatters, has now become an very expensive place to live. I decided to create a animation highlighting the issue.
