Very insightful discussion at the #6DegreesBRLN event: Together with Swedish philosopher Åsa Wikforss, the Canadian author and film maker Sally Armstrong, the founder of the Common Action Forum Wadah Khanfar and numerous early risers (as well as under the eloquent moderation of Jafaar Abdul Karim), we discussed the question of what we can do to confront the prevailing polarization in the contemporary social and political sphere. Right-wing populists and other illiberal movements frame pluralistic lifestyles and diversity as threats from which society must be protected – and in the same breath, bring themselves into play as the only brave and competent protectors from them. In yesterday's discussion we quickly came to the conclusion that we need to forge a strong "alliance against fear" to stand up to the fear mongers.
