Love, a treacherous door set amidst
A void of endless indecisions, life is met with
Countless failures and disappointments many
Heavily strewn amidst sparse victories won

For a decade now -those words, those words-
You’ve seeded my heart with countless joys
Heavily strewn amidst sporadic brotherhoods
And the painful abandonments of friends

With girlish laugh and your honest eye
You have caught the gleam of my every(day) way
And even at your worst, you’ve shone
A light through my melancholy carapace

I know no other with powers such as these
To take a mundane, gloomy thing such as me
And impossibly, to pass a happy string
Through the eye of my sharp and pointed reality

To think now, how the mirror fades
To show a man I barely know
Though 30 years i’ve gazed at him
For 10 of those he’s had a friend

Words, even still, clamber now for voice
Sticking fingers into i’s and trampling over one another
In a mad race to meet you here through my pen
And write you a love letter worth reading, again and again

Again and again, I’m lost for words
How does one thank God for a universe of love?
Transcending lust and carnal things
I’ve grown wings because you’ve sung of the sky

I will carry you, or try, wherever you wish to go
With these wings woven from your hopeful trust
I will call out your name in my darkest hour
And be illumined by your beauty and love.
