I recorded this track as a play-along practice piece, purely for critique by my fellow members on scottsbasslessons.com It is not intended for publication, or wider circulation. It is not for profit.
I chose to play along with James Taylor’s recording of “Angels of Fenway”, which is a track from his 2015 Album, “Before This World”.
Lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, James Taylor, penned this song for his “Before This World” Album. Named after the team’s historic ball park, the track traces the history of the Red Sox, from the sale of legendary Baseball player, Babe Ruth, through to their celebrated 2004 World Series title, a cathartic moment, which ended an 86 year drought.
Last week, I bought a used (2016) Overwater Hybrid Jazz 4 string fretted Bass. I set up the action and recently re-strung it with a set of new #RSB45105 round wound pure Nickel strings from the Italian string maker Gallistrings.
I love its look, it’s playability and deep full tone. This recording was a one shot take.
This particular Bass has an ‘Active’ mode via an onboard preamp. I chose to play it in its ‘Active’ mode. I set the onboard Bass, Mid and Treble at 50%. No other additional effects were employed, only my fingers.
I routed it via my Bergantino B|AMP, which I used as an inline preamp, direct through an XLR cable, to my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 USB Audio input, which is connected to my Intel i7 powered, Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC. The Audio track was recorded direct on Ableton Live 10 Lite recording software.
The Video was contemporaneously captured, via my ancient Panasonic Video Camera, which was connected direct to my PC via a Firewire cable. It was recorded direct to Corel Pinnacle Studio Video Software, version 21.5. The Audio track was subsequently added and synchronised with the video footage.
